NATURALISTIC PATH
The mountains in this area are mainly composed by calcareous materials originated from the shells of small sea creatures. These rocks are very porous so the rainwater rapidly soaks through the soil; this is why you will not find drinking water fountains along the path.
On the route you will find:
Some sheep farms and apiaries which are still in business.
The so called “casotte”, stone houses built up by farmers to take shelter in bad weather conditions. For more information you can visit: http://osavalmadrera.wixsite.com/santomaso/le-casotte
Along the pathway you may find the prints of mouflons and wild boars. These animals were brought to the area to repopulate the mountains in the 80s.
You will also see a cableway, which is very similar to a pulley and is used to move food and resources from the top to the valley.
